Hundreds of L 1008 members turn out for Workers' Rights meetingsWith contract negotiations about to enter into crucial joint economic bargaining with three of the largest companies at the California Service Center, hundreds of L 1008 members turned out for Workers' Rights meetings to learn more about their right to engage in concerted activities in order to win good 1st contracts. The meetings were conducted during the workers lunch breaks on both shifts on Monday and Tuesday.

Packing into a standing room only conference room on the 3rd floor right above their workplace in the Chet Holifield Federal Building, the L 1008 members heard UE Director of Organization Bob Kingsley explain their legally protected right to engage in a work stoppage if their companies don't negotiate good 1st contracts over the next three days of joint economic bargaining here.

At Tuesday's meetings, the audience was a blaze in a sea of red Contract Now t-shirts. The L 1008 members erupted into enthusiastic applause when Director of Organization Kingsley shouted, "It's time for the companies to 'show us the money'!" All the meetings ended with the members chanting, "Who are we? UE!" and "What do we want? Contracts!" On their way out of the room after the meetings, members were scooping up extra t-shirts to wear over the coming days of workplace actions.
