On August 18th Susan Hunter (NG negotiating committee), Jeanette Weiland (NG Contract Support Committee), and Frankie Hayes (Stanley) were joined by community leaders and elected representatives to visit the USCIS regional office in South Burlington. The delegation, which was led by State Senator Ginny Lyons and State Rep. Chris Pearson, met with USCIS regional director Tracy Rebeaud to express concerns about the way contractors are treating their workers. In addition to the state senator and representative, the community delegation included Vermont Workers Center Staff James Haslam and Erika Simard, Workers Center President Dawn Stanger, Fletcher Allen nurse Karen Quill, and VWC volunteer John Maclean. The regional director listented to the community and workers' concerns and commented. “It’s moving to hear what you’ve all been going through”. She said she would get the message to headquarters in Washington D.C.
