UE Local 1008 Meets with Senator Barbara Boxer Office

Four UE Local 1008 members went to visit Senator Barbara Boxer's office in Los Angeles on Friday, August 15th to follow up on the May 5th letter she signed demanding that a fair and equitable contract be settled by the companies by August 1st.  Meeting with several of Sen. Boxer's staff members, the UE members informed the Senator's office that a contract has not been settled yet because the comapnies last offer did not adequately address the union member's demands.  They also spoke about the increasing attack on union leaders and union members being spearheaded by Stanley through the use of invasive, unfair, and unnecessary background checks that have led to extended probations or even terminations.  Senator Boxer's office promised to call USCIS and ask them to pressure Stanley to settle contracts in a timely manner, to look into the use of background checks as a proxy for discriminating against union members, and to contact Stanley about this practice.
